| Summary, etc. | En 1965, l'abbé André Tihon se voyait confier ses premiers enseignements aux Facultés universitaires Saint-Louis. Il en demeura ainsi pendant plus d'un tiers de siècle une figure toujours présente. Ayant l'avantage de « cultiver » à la fois les champs du xviiie et des xixe-xxe siècles, il faisait bénéficier son public d'une approche sans barrière de ces « périodes ». Pas d'unité de temps donc, pas non plus d'unité de lieu dans l'œuvre : même si les territoires ayant formé les Pays-Bas dits « autrichiens » puis la Belgique s'y taillent une part de lion, les perspectives internationales d'une Église que ne peuvent enserrer des frontières temporelles y prennent aussi leur place. Unité d'action, davantage sans doute. Historien des organisations inspirées du catholicisme romain et de leur impact dans la société tout entière, André Tihon n'omet jamais le vécu du peuple chrétien et engrange à ce sujet données méthodologiques et matériaux statistiques autant que connaissance de faits. |
