| Summary, etc. | Dans l’Antiquité grecque et romaine, on attendait des mots écrits ou prononcés qu’ils suscitent l’imagination visuelle et puissent convaincre, plaire et émouvoir par leur qualité d’enargeia et d’euidentia. Ce volume collectif étudie ce phénomène de l’épopée homérique à la seconde sophistique, et, par-delà l’Antiquité, au début de l’époque moderne : le fonctionnement de l’enargeia y est analysé dans la poésie grecque (archaïque et hellénistique) et romaine, la tragédie attique et shakespearienne, l’historiographie latine et les écrits sur l’art de l’Antiquité et de la modernité. Il éclaire une pratique souvent réflexive avant même d’être théorisée et montre comment théorie et pratique interagissent à partir de l’époque hellénistique. Les différentes études réunies ici soulignent la manière dont l’enargeia mobilise différents sens, ses liens étroits avec la performance chorale et théâtrale, ainsi que les questions poétiques, épistémologiques et ontologiques qu’elle soulève.
