| Summary, etc. | Le cinéma politique ne cesse de résister à la possibilité d’une définition claire et unique malgré les nombreux travaux d’histoire et de théorie du cinéma qui lui sont consacrés. Il n’y a pas un mais des cinémas politiques, parfois très éloignés dans leur conception de l’engagement. Ce livre propose un panorama des manières d’envisager les relations entre cinéma et politique. Il mobilise pour cela des œuvres d’époques et de styles variés : cinéma social ou militant, fictions ou documentaires, films historiques, propagande, etc. L’auteur, en s’écartant des discours majoritaires existants, affirme la nécessité d’une lecture esthétique du cinéma politique. L’ouvrage s’articule autour de cinq thèses (Ce n’est pas le film qui est politique, mais la lecture qui en est faite – Toute politique a son esthétique – Le cinéma et la politique se posent mutuellement des problèmes – Le film est une action – Le cinéma politique n’existe pas), qui sont autant de propositions pour repenser les qualités politiques des films, leur potentiel de subversion, et en fin de compte, leur capacité à transformer le monde. |
