| Summary, etc. | Écrites par le mercier Jean Laignel en 1711, poursuivies jusqu’en 1738 par un capitaine de navire, un cordonnier, un avocat et un abbé sonneur de cloches, ces Antiquitez du Havre de Grâce constituent une histoire du Havre depuis sa fondation, puisée aux meilleures sources d’archives de l’époque. Bien qu’anonyme, cette histoire fut reconnue pour sa fiabilité et son exactitude par les Havrais pendant plus d’un siècle. Hervé Chabannes et Dominique Rouet publient ici non seulement le texte dans sa langue originale, mais aussi ses variantes, continuations, ainsi que les plans originaux inédits. Ce texte fondamental pour l’historiographie havraise est précédé d’une présentation historique et de l’enquête qui a permis de retrouver les manuscrits et d’identifier les auteurs restés dans l’anonymat depuis 300 ans. |
