| Summary, etc. | Dans les années 1950 paraissent deux romans dont le succès, le scandale et la voix marquent le siècle : l’un, L’Attrape-cœurs (1951), est américain, l’autre, Bonjour tristesse (1954) français. Les deux héros ont dix-sept ans et s’adressent à une classe d’âge nouvellement constituée dans la première moitié du XXe siècle : les adolescents.L’adolescence n’a pas toujours eu cette visibilité. Pendant tout le XIXe siècle et jusqu’au début du XXe, littérature, sciences et arts s’en méfient: il faut en sortir pour s’accomplir. Mais le récit d’adolescence connaît un renouvellement aux alentours des années 1920, lorsque le roman de formation, encadrant l’adolescence par l’enfance en amont, l’entrée dans l’âge adulte en aval, s’avère dépassé.Comment, désormais racontée de l’intérieur par celui ou celle qui le vit, l’adolescence a-t-elle gagné en intensité, en complexité et en indépendance vis-à-vis du regard de l’adulte ? Comment le « moment adolescent » a-t-il conquis son autonomie dans les premières années du siècle et quelle fut la part de la littérature narrative dans ce renouvellement ? Telles sont les interrogations auxquelles le présent ouvrage se propose de répondre.
