| Summary, etc. | Hilarion Roux, banquier marseillais proche des Rothschild, venu en Espagne en 1843 pour la captation de l’argent métal, marié et anobli à Carthagène, fut un pionnier de la minéro-métallurgie espagnole. Il étendit ses activités à l’ensemble de la Méditerranée et fut notamment à l’origine de la réouverture des mines grecques du Laurium avant de connaître une faillite retentissante en 1883. Au-delà de sa trajectoire flamboyante, le marquis d’Escombreras représente un moment exceptionnel de la Méditerranée minière. Hilarion Roux, banquero marsellés próximo a los Rothschild, que llegó a España en 1843 para localizar plata, se casó en Cartagena, donde obtuvo un título nobiliario, y fue un pionero de la minería y la metalurgia españolas. Extendió sus actividades a todo el Mediterráneo y fue notablemente responsable de la reapertura de las minas griegas de Laurium antes de quebrar en 1883. Más allá de su flamante carrera, el marqués de Escombreras representa un momento excepcional de la minería mediterránea. Hilarion Roux, a Marseilles banker close to the Rothschilds, who came to Spain in 1843 to prospect for silver, was married and ennobled in Cartagena, and was a pioneer of Spanish mining and metallurgy. He extended his activities throughout the Mediterranean, and was notably behind the reopening of the Greek Laurium mines, before suffering a resounding bankruptcy in 1883. Beyond his flamboyant career, the Marquis d'Escombreras represents an exceptional moment in the history of Mediterranean mining. |
