En couvrant une aire géographique intégrant les espaces européens et méditerranéens, cet ouvrage questionne un phénomène qui a une longue histoire, mais dont les développements et les caractéristiques restent encore souvent à préciser. Il vise à dégager, dans une perspective diachronique, les grandes tendances du développement du thermalisme (aussi bien médical que récréatif) et à souligner les difficultés que l'étude du phénomène suscite. Les études présentées concernent ses principaux aspects (architecturaux, économiques, politiques, culturels et médicaux) et sont toutes fondées sur une grande richesse documentaire, textuelle et/ou archéologique. |
