| Summary, etc. | La traduction dite « littéraire » est l’espace d’un double travail, celui des langues sur les littératures, celui des littératures sur les langues. À l’âge de la mondialisation, et d’une emprise économique et technique sans précédent, la tentative indéfiniment recommencée entre le texte original et ses multiples transferts ne peut plus se penser dans l’improbable périmètre de son objet. Force née de l’hybridité de son faire, traduire-écrire est un geste qui a le pouvoir, d’après Victor Hugo dans William Shakespeare, de jeter « un pont entre les peuples » et de servir de « passage des idées ». Ses enjeux ne sont pas seulement formels mais également éthiques. En son instabilité créatrice, la traduction relie étroitement la production de la valeur (la qualité artistique des œuvres) à la réinvention des valeurs dans l’espace collectif. Échange et métissage, cette activité de décentrement y déploie chaque fois une pensée spécifique de l’altérité et de la culture.
