| Summary, etc. | Szkice młodopolskie zawierają piętnaście tekstów napisanych na przestrzeni mniej więcej trzydziestu lat. Całość rozpoczyna się i kończy nawiązaniem do Marcela Prousta, bo przecież autor W poszukiwaniu straconego czasu to niemal rówieśnik Berenta, Staffa, Przybyszewskiego. I Stanisława Wyspiańskiego, rzecz jasna, który jest ukrytym bohaterem zbioru. A prócz niego – Miriam, Rittner, Ostrowska, Reymont, Miciński… Zamiast Żeromskiego – jego wielki temat, zaborcza szkoła, znana najlepiej z Syzyfowych prac. I jeszcze próba odpowiedzi na pytanie, co zdarzyło się w roku 1890, oraz przypomnienie najpiękniejszych książek Młodej Polski (przynajmniej niektóre spełniłyby może marzenia Miriama i Prousta o arcydziełach sztuki edytorskiej drukowanych na eleganckim papierze, efektowną czcionką, z szerokimi marginesami i artystycznymi okładkami). Drafts on Young Poland contain fifteen texts written in the span of approximately thirty years. The book begins and ends with a reference to Marcel Proust, as, indeed, the author of In Search of Lost Time was almost a coeval of Berent, Staff, or Przybyszewski. And, of course, of Stanisław Wyspiański, who is the hidden hero of the collection. Apart from him, also Miriam, Rittner, Ostrowska, Reymont, Miciński . . . Instead of Żeromski, there is his great topic of school under the partitions, best known through Syzyfowe Prace [The Labours of Sisyphus]. And, finally, there is the attempt at answering the question of what happened in 1890, and a recollection of the most beautiful books of Young Poland (at least some of them would perhaps make the dreams of Miriam and Proust come true: dreams of masterpieces of the art of editing, printed on elegant papier, in an attractive font, with wide margins and artful covers). |
