Ce manuel cherche à définir les règles de la méthode historique afin de contribuer à asseoir la scientificité d’une discipline, l’histoire, dans le contexte de sa professionnalisation universitaire. Le texte affirme le primat des archives comme preuves et sources du récit historique, et revient sur les différentes étapes du travail sur archives, de la localisation à l’interprétation des documents. Tout à la fois loué et critiqué, ce texte reste d’une indéniable modernité et mérite de figurer sur les tables de chevet de tous les apprentis chercheurs en sciences sociales. Nous sommes heureux de le rendre accessible dans une édition enrichie par une préface de Gérard Noiriel. |
